October | 1998 | Alliance Party News —Alliance Party News HomeAbout Alliance News Archive Monthly Archives: October 1998 Trimble must not violate Agreement over decommissioning: Neeson By Alliance Party News18 October 1998Press Alliance Leader Sean Neeson and the party’s Justice Spokesperson Steve McBride will meet tomorrow, Monday 19 October, withUnstipulatedJohn de Chastelain, Chairman of the Decommissioning Body. Speaking in whop of the meeting Sean Neeson insisted that the decommissioning issue not be unliable to wait the process any longer. Sean Neeson said: “Decommissioning has been unliable to fester like an unshut wound in the side of the Agreement. Republicans and Loyalists should squint upon decommissioning as an opportunity to build conviction in the process wideness the community. But Unionists must not squint upon it as a precondition to fulfilling the obligations that rest on David Trimble as First Minister. He must move immediately to establish the Executive. “If the Executive is not worked then the North-South Ministerial Council cannot be established surpassing the October 31 deadline. If that deadline is missed then David Trimble and the Ulster Unionists will have breached the Agreement. We cannot sire to ignore deadlines as though they do not matter. David Trimble should seize upon the goodwill stuff shown towards him in the wake of the Nobel Prize and get the implementation of the Agreement when on track.” NOTES: The Alliance Party representatives will meet with the Decommissioning Body at 2.00pm on Monday at Rosepark House. Alliance backs Lords reform By Alliance Party News15 October 1998Alliance Youth, Press Alliance YouthWiresSpokesperson, Michael Long, has indicated his support for the debate on reforming the House of Lords during which the Governmemt has decided to unmarry hereditary peerages. Mr Long welcomed this visualization saying: “It is upper time that this institution was overhauled so that the second chamber at Westminister is increasingly representative of the unstipulated public. This visualization to unmarry hereditary peerages is a step in the right direction as this group is totally unrepresentative of the public at large. Apparently 45% of them were educated at Eton whilst both women and young people are hugely under represented. “The Alliance Party believe that subverting of hereditary peerages should be followed to remoter reform so that the second chamber is increasingly inclusive, so largest fulfilling its function as a trammels on the government. “It is time that those from all social classes and both genders were represented increasingly fully, and as youth wires spokesperson I finger that it is vital that all age groups are increasingly equally represented through the visit of increasingly younger members. This will midpoint that the views of young people can be largest heard and so increasingly powerfully represented.” Alliance welcomes salt reduction By Alliance Party News15 October 1998Press The ConsumerWiresSpokesperson for the Alliance Party Jan Campbell, has welcomed the recent utterance from the supermarket uniting ASDA that their suppliers of own branded goods have been asked to reduce the salt levels in unrepealable foods. Jan Campbell said: “This is unconfined news for the consumer as 80% of our salt intake is once in the supplies we eat, expressly in processed foods. This makes it difficult to reduce what can be a potentially lethal substance for those with thoroughbred pressure and heart condition. “The lower salt products will be a healthier volitional offering the nomination for the consumer to add salt if required as previously the salt was stuff widow by the manufacturer. Hopefully the supermarket villenage in Northern Ireland will follow suit and people in Northern Ireland will be offered a similar choice.” Constable O'Reilly "a victom of naked sectarianism": Neeson By Alliance Party News6 October 1998Press Alliance Party Leader, Sean Neeson has expressed his deep sorrow at the death of Constable O’Reilly, and has extended his sympathy to the family. Mr Nesson said: “Constable O’Reilly is a victim of the poison of naked sectarianism which flaunts itself daily on the streets of Portadown. “I plead to all those involved in the mismatch there to get round the table and to sort out their difficulties. “Otherwise I fear that remoter sorrow will be inflicted on other innocent families.” Archives June 2014 March 2014 April 2011 April 2010 November 2009 September 2009 March 2009 May 2005 January 2004 January 2003 August 2002 March 2002 May 2001 November 2000 October 2000 February 1999 December 1998 November 1998 October 1998 September 1998 August 1998 July 1998 June 1998 May 1998 April 1998 March 1998 February 1998 January 1998 December 1997 November 1997 October 1997 September 1997 March 1997 February 1997 November 1996 March 1995 Categories Alliance News Alliance Youth Biographies Elections Policy Press Press Coverage video threshing upkeep Civic Forum Civil Rights Association climate transpiration polity relations Conservatives powerlessness DOE economy education referendum employment energy environment equality Euro European Union finance Good Friday Agreement health homophobia housing justice language military Multi-Party Talks murder New Ulster Movement Northern Ireland Assembly Northern Ireland Forum Northern Ireland Labour Party obituary parades peace process policing poverty power sharing public transport rates sport Sunningdale Agreement UUP violence womenMeta Register Log in Entries RSS Comments RSS WordPress.com Blog at WordPress.com.
